What is a Vector Image

What Is a Vector Image & Why It’s Needed for Promotional Branding

So you’ve decided to boost your branding using the tried and trusted technique of promotional products. Now you’re getting asked to send a vectorised image of your logo and/or design. This guide will help you with what you need to know about vector images.

Well basically it’s an image file that is well known for it’s scalability factor. A vectorised image can be scaled from small to extremely large without losing the quality of the image.

This is one reason why they’re compulsory for promotional printing – they make sure the image looks good no matter the product and decoration size.

It’s also helpful for us to make changes to the design if required, as vector files are easier to edit.

The below file formats are commonly used and ones that we at PromoPAL accept.

Now let’s talk about our asterisked friend – the pdf file. A pdf file has the ability to be a vector file but it doesn’t mean all of them are. Try these suggestions to check if your pdf file is vector:

  • Open the file and zoom in on it. If the image gets pixelated then it’s not a vector file. Just note that this is not always a reliable test.
  • If you’re still unsure, open your pdf file in a design software like Adobe Illustrator. You should be able to move and edit elements of design.
  • The final check would be to email it to us when putting through your order. We’ll let you know if it’s vector or not.
